"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine , that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. Gone Too Far - Expected publication January 6th 2015 Piper Woods can’t wait for the purgatory of senior year to end. She skirts the fringes of high school like a pro until the morning she finds a notebook with mutilated photographs and a list of student sins. She’s sure the book is too gruesome to be true, until pretty, popular Stella dies after a sex-tape goes viral. Everyone’s sure it’s suicide, but Piper remembers Stella’s name from the book and begins to suspect something much worse. Drowning in secrets she doesn’t want to keep, Piper’s fears are confirmed when she receives an anonymous text message daring her to make things right. All she needs to do is choose a name, the name of someone who deserves to be punished… The Law of Loving Others - Expected publication January 8th...

Rating: ★★★★★ 4.5 I debated how many stars to give this. I didn’t start out liking it. It had the classical boy-comedy/manic pixie dream girl feeling to it. Not exactly the kind of thing that I like. But after reading it for a while, I guess I changed my mind about not liking it. It was funny, it was enlightening, it had meaning to me. And in the end it is Margo who paints herself as a manic pixie dream girl. And even the book acknowledges that. I know some people thought of this as mystery novel, and felt the need for a stronger plot. I disagree, there is a mystery of Margo’s disappearance, but it is in no way intended to be a mystery the reader can solve (which is number one rule of mystery novels). It is a story of friendship, and self-discovery and coming of age. And that’s how it works. Personally I think it had too much plot. If it had been less convoluted and unrealistic in the unnecessary mystery-quest, it would have been a great literary piece. So in th...

Rating: ★★★★★ I honestly couldn’t find anything wrong with this book. Nothing that bothered me enough to knock down any stars. Not that it was completely perfect or the most amazing book I have ever read. But it was perfect for what it was, which is YA romance/sci-fi/dystopia. I got so engrossed reading it, I couldn’t really stop to make notes, so I just marked a couple of beautiful passages that I liked. The book has a very visual writing style - very translatable to movie sort of thing. I could visualize everything that was happening, even with the complex world. And it’s definitely a very complex and cool world. I had a hard time understanding how exactly our world would have become this world they live in, but that wasn’t a bad thing. Just something I’m hoping to see explored in the other books. For me the book was interesting and fast-paced from the very beginning, even when I wasn’t really understanding what the hell that world was about. But once you get into the mindset of how...

★ ★★ ☆ ☆ 2.8 stars I know, that’s very specific. I promise that I enjoyed reading this book, and my lowerish rating is not an invitation for people not to read it. I think if you’re interested in the premise of a book you should read it and form your own conclusions. Because there will always be good and bad reviews. The premise of a click through book with websites and videos and interactiveness was what drove me to read this. And the idea of a treasure hunt! I had some problems right at the beginning with the main character and the fact the she didn’t feel real to me. She felt like such a cookie-cutter caricature of the artsy-irresponsible girl who doesn’t know what to do with her life and wants to find true love. It does get better towards the end, but that was quite annoying. It was hard to relate to her, I am 24 years old, like Mags, and I don’t mean to sound superior, but my life is a lot more put together than that. Also, I don’t behave and talk like a teenager with weird slang ...
